Name: Marn Liniera
Nickname(optional): Spider, Goth-Boy..
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Species: Human-Arachnid
Position: Neutral
Power(s):
Personal Skills
Sewing - Although it seems strange, as a independent vagabond, Marn has learned to care for himself, and with the help of his silk, can skillfully sew things from shoes to clothes. He prefers to do this when out of danger, in his free time, alone in solitude and in a quiet environment. He is moderately skilled with the needle, and can take either little or long time to sew, depending on what his sewing. He mainly uses this to fix his clothes after a battle, however.
Webbing - Marn can spin a long thread of webbing (spider-silk) that can either be long, short, normal, glue-like-sticky or a continuous flow. The silk can be expelled forcefully or gently. Marn uses this mainly for sticking things, tying things or for his sewing. It is not wise to use this ability offensively, for Marn has a rather limited amount of silk he can spin per day, and he would rather use this for personal purposes. The silk flies out of his hand through the skin itself, without harming Marn. The silk is quite strong - enough, to say, to bound a dog, but definitely not enough to bound a adult at full strength and health. The silk deteriorates over time, snapping after two or three days.
Marn can use this in conjunction with Arachnomania, tying strong strands of his silk around the hilt and then fighting with them as though using much longer weapons, slinging them around then pulling them back, launch them at the enemy, hurling Arachnomania before silking them back and such.
Approximately five meters of silk per day.
Sense - Marn has a weak sense ability as part-spider, and can utilize it to tell the difference between humans, Heartless and Nobodies. He can also detect a person once he commits it to importance and memory, so when he imprints him or her to his senses, he can always tell who the person is. This allows him to detect, per se, one person from many other similar looking people. To activate this ability or imprint a person or creature, Marn must either be (have) touching (touched) or tasting (tasted) the person/creature.
Agility - What Marn lacks in strength, he makes up with his fast speed, flexibility and lithe, almost graceful movements. His already refined speed is further honed through his part-spider heritage. Marn fights in a manner that he is always moving - while fighting, he seldom stays in once place, swift combos and strikes in a capoeira-like manner. Although weak in strength, his daggers and speed make him a formidable opponent. This can be a slight drawback however, should his speed be used against him, or if one manages to land a good hit - for no matter how fast he is, he is still physically lacking.
Arachnid Speaking - Marn can talk to spiders, and he can understand what spiders are saying. He can converse in them with both English and clicking sounds.
Abilities
Portus - Taps into his bonds with his friends or family, before ripping opens a small/moderately large, highly unstable portal from which his spider allies appear from. Portus can be accessed both ways, but only for spiders and spiders alone. Other living creatures that attempt to cross into Portus that aren't spiders will find themselves rebounded. Casting Portus to and fro from other worlds is exceedingly finicky and draining, and can only be cast three times per thread.
Araignee, Spinne, Ragno, Aranea, Arana, Herpyll, Grammo, Loxos, Micrath and Ozyp - Ten of Marn's spider friends and family. These are small spiders that are used for objectives like reconnaissance, scouting and such. The spiders are miniscule and somewhat unnoticeable, but still killable. Should one be killed, a different spider (With a different name) will replace the spider lost. They reside in Sequir, but they can be ported to where ever Marn is currently at with Portus. They are completely helpless in combat, and die easily. They come from random worlds after Sequir was devoured.
When it is important, the ten spiders can temporarily tap into their bond and vision. Marn's eyesight will temporarily be replaced with the eyesight of the spiders, therefore seeing what they see. This doesn't last more then one post, cooldown of three.
Goliath Form - A last-ditch attempt that means fight or flee. Marn tends to steer clear away from this unless he is in extremely dire straits. Any clothes Marn has on will be ripped to pieces, whilst Marn transforms into a large tarantula, the size of Lasiodora. He loses his formidable speed but gains more hefty and strong hits instead. Pincers, fangs and sharp talons, alongside his body serve as his attacks here. Arachnomania dissolves to form his talons, the needle disappears into his skin. Everything will be restored (Except for his clothes) after he transforms back - which is, upon death, or after five posts. Susceptibility to fire is increased. One use.
Weapon(s):
Arachnomania
Arachnomania are two intricately carved daggers. The blades are so thin and sharp it could cut off the hairs on a person's arm, bigger then Marn's hand. The hilt fits perfectly in Marn's hands, and he wields them skillfully. The hilts have beautifully carved spiders, the patterns leading to the blade look like spider webs connecting. Marn hides them in the sleeves of his hoody by spinning a thin but sticky web, and can pull it out quickly when he needs them. This makes him capable of striking with the long sleeves of his hoody as well while Arachnomania is hidden.
Needle
Not exactly a weapon per se, but still sharp and useful all the same. Marn keeps this normal sewing needle hidden on the underside of his right arm. The tip of the needle, all the way to the eye is always coated by a single thread of silk, sticking in to his arm, making sure the sharp needle cannot harm him with the silk around it. The sewing needle is mainly used for, well, sewing, and Marn uses the needle to sew with his silk. Every time he keeps it back on his arm, he coats it with a single strand of web, and when he uses it, removes the thread.
Picture(optional):
Appearance: Standing at around 5'4, Marn is surprisingly sexily lean yet fairly muscular, toned and strong looking body present. He has jet-black hair that covers his forehead while the back hits the top of his neck. His face seems somewhat soft when he smiles, but that itself is a rarity. He wears a black open hoodie with a spider-web insignia on the back with no shirt underneath, revealing his muscularly toned body. Back and front of his body are large spider tattoos which are black as well, covering his abdomen to chest. His pants are simple brown baggy trousers. His face is shadowed by the hoodie, but he has short, black hair and black, lifeless eyes. He always seems emotionless, face always kept neutral, seldom showing any emotion. His shoes are simple and elegantly made with silk and leather. When he feels like it, he might sew something different or wear something new, but he never strays from his open hoodie and baggy pants.
Personality: Marn is cold, moody, unfriendly, emotionless, quiet, and rather freaky. That sums him up rather nicely. His face always appears neutral, almost like a statue, eyes appearing as black, soulless orbs. He is independent, preferring to rely on himself then others, seldom does he even have allies or friends in the first place, mostly due to his arachnid heritage, people tend to steer clear due to fear or hate. He is, when annoyed or angered, rather flowery-mouthed, profanities and vulgarities not at all held back when he feels like it.
In fact, the only time where you can see any real emotions is most probably when Marn is with spiders. Most are his friends and families, and his usually frosty exterior morphs into a tender, loving, kind, sweet, gentle and playful boy when around them. He is also like this when with friends he truly like and trust (And vice versa), but so far, that is none. While around spiders/friends like these, hostilities cause Marn to completely lose his composure, especially when targeted at arachnids, any kinds.
He tries to steer clear of crowds of people, preferring solitude. He usually turns a cold shoulder to strangers, hoping he drives them away with his unfriendliness due to his past, and history with humans. On the inside, he is in fact, quite fragile (As a young boy at the age of 16 after all), love and loyalties meaning a lot to him. If you fear and hate arachnids, it mean Marn hates you right back. For those who drive on meaningless lust, Marn tends to dislike those and stay away from them as well. He is especially vengeful towards those that do not keep their word and those that are disloyal.
He is not afraid to kill at all. Marn doesn't fight fair, or fight flashy. He plays to win, hook or crook, even if it means striking from the shadows. Somewhat adept at hunting, he doesn't pick fights for no reason however, as he values peace as well.
Original World: Sequir
Current Residing World: Traverse Town
History/Background:
Born on Sequir as a distant and unknown cousin to Solaris Callaway, Marn was the child of an illegitimate couple, a human woman and a spider. One half of Sequir consisted of werewolves, while the other half had other kinds of species. The spider tribes were one of them. The spider tribes had the ability to shift into humans (temporarily), and as Marn was the child conceived by one who was already human, he was born with the ability to shift into a spider instead, born a natural human.
Skills that spiders had - usage of spider silk, an extra sense, incredible agility (For the normal human), his understanding of spiders as well as his extensive knowledge on them. His ability to turn into a spider was left relatively untouched. As a humanoid, he was viciously mocked from birth by other spiders, and was mostly ostracized when amidst humans. Very few human-spiders had been conceived, and those that did were branded with tattoos. Wanting to prove himself, Marn had two large spiders tattooed on his back and front at the age of seven.
He soon learned that he had to fend for himself - his father wasn't too fond of him, his mother ran away, consumed with shame. Very carefully, he managed to steal two daggers, and from those, he exquisitely decorated and had help enhancing them. With those, he could at last protect himself instead of running, and spent the next few months clumsily training. During the morning came school, during the evening came spending time with his spider friends (And practicing his spider skills) while late night was the only time he had to train. Although it strained his health, he persisted.
Slowly, the spider residents grew to like Marn, as his good looks and gentle charm won them over. He maintained his hatred for normal humans, for their own hatred against spiders and arachnophobia merely intensified his despise for them. Instead, he bonded with species, bonds that would last for life. He grew two personas - one while dealing with arachnids, the other while dealing with humans. From there, his emotionless and stony attitude stemmed, while he embraced his more "normal" side with arachnids.
As he grew, so did his skill, and he was finally capable of defeating hostile creatures, like large scorpions or snakes. From then on, he had an easier time fending for himself - food was more easily acquired (The spider tribes mostly avoided normal human food, and as Marn took a humanoid form, he required humanoid things) and he could finally defend himself from rogue werewolves.
He lacked one thing, one thing that was exceedingly uncomfortable to be without. Proper clothes. As such, he mostly went around naked in the spider area while wearing a crudely crafted shirt and pants made of torn clothing while around humans or at school, which was why he studied carefully the makings of a spider web. He had seen women sew, and had an idea. Why not implement sewing using spider silk? It was firm enough, albeit they didn't come in different colors, they would do.
With ease, he stole a needle which he kept with him very carefully. All the money he had saved up went to buying cloths, and he started experimenting. Soon, his hours of training with the daggers turned to training with the needle, and he was somewhat proficient at sewing. As he didn't have that many cloths, he carefully made an elaborately created hoodie, which was slightly larger then him so it would fit for at least years. The rest went into pants, which was more simple. Marn knew nothing about sewing shoes, so he did what looked like the most sensible thing to do. He stole those, too.
Most worlds were unsafe from the onslaught of Heartless (And to a lesser extent, Nobodies) and Sequir was no different. Each tribes immediately ceased hostilities, gathering themselves to protect each other against the new creatures. The Heartless were persistent, and Marn's own tribes were weakening. Finally, in a last ditch attempt to protect themselves, they spent days constructing a massive wall of webbing, from which they were "protected" from inside.
The outside world was then sealed off from the spiders, and Marn didn't care - he had understood and learned the basics and whatnots of humans, having understood English and was quite good at it. He spent the rest of the days training and sewing, whilst Heartless searched for a way to penetrated the large web. Those that phased into the ground were promptly captured and destroyed. Those who tried to ascend the web were stuck and left stranded.
Nothing lasted forever, and the web certainly didn't. The Heartless started throwing their weight at it, causing more and more creatures to stick to the web, over and over, until the weight caused the web to buckle and fall. The surviving spiders used their final strategy. Ripping open an enormously unstable portal, the spiders and Marn escaped, with Heartless hot on their tails. The fate of Sequir was left unknown.
The portal sent Marn hurtling towards Traverse Town, with several Heartless as well. He disposed of them before wandering the large, bright, soulful town. The residents were no different from the humans on Sequir, and Marn found a secluded alley for him to "reside" in and keep to his work. Heartless dropped newfound currency, and from that he used to provide for himself. He still had the ability to keep in contact with his spider friends (And meet new spiders as well), and tends to try and stay away from humanity, humanity who feared him, hated him, wanted him for many different reasons....
Role Playing Sample:
It was the largest thing Marn had ever laid his eyes on. The portal spanned from nearly one side of the forest to another. His feelings were laced with fear and desolation. He was leaving Sequir, leaving Sequir permanently, he wasn't coming back, he was going alone, no one cared about him - he might not even have his friends, for the portal was said to send one person here and the other there. That didn't make much sense, but he was told, in short, they would be separated.
Heartless were rampaging far behind, and his brethren - his spider kin started hurrying through the portal. Survival was more important, without a life, you couldn't do much, after all. Marn waited, letting his friends and family pass, taking a last look around the forest. The forest, where he lived sixteen years of his life. Dread and sadness took him by surprise, what would happen here when they were all gone? Would it be razed to the ground? Would it be corrupted, twisted, destroyed, smashed to bits....
For the first time in many, many years, he shed a tear. Although he seemed heartless, he did have feelings. "If only they could see me now," he thought wryly, referring to his dear schoolmates. As the last of spiders passed, the portal started shuddering. Taking one final glance, Marn watched the first of many Heartless push their way through barriers and obstructions, watched as they faded, as he toppled backwards into the portal....
Sequir faded as Marn held it in his gaze, and a large, black, stone ground slowly appeared. He pressed his hand to his body, felt his beating heart, felt the cold floor. He made it. Restraining jubilation and joy within his neutral face, he got up, looking around for signs of friends and family. What he got was several of the black creatures, staring at him. The Heartless.
A small, vaguely humanoid Heartless lunged towards the - what seemed like helpless and unsuspecting boy - and immediately got pierced with Arachnomania, straight through where it's heart would be. It faded into nothing before his eyes, and the other Heartless struck. Detatching Arachnomania from their hiding place, Marn carefully tightened two firm strands of silk to the handles. The Heartless relied purely on instinct, it seemed, and barely seemed to care that one of their own had been struck down.
If more, it seemed, the Heartless were even more aggressive and invigorated, each taking turns to jump at Marn, who simply tossed Arachnomania at them, killing them easily, pulling his daggers back with a simple tug. The slow game continued, one by one, neither side relenting. As one Heartless fell, another appeared, and Marn soon saw he would need a lot more then merely Arachnomania to take them all on should they launch a combined attack...
...Which they were doing now. Damnit.
Swiftly evading three consecutive lunges, Marn quickly backed away, stripping his hoodie off and laying them on the dustbin, praying he was correct. He was indeed, for the Heartless paid no heed, their quarry being Marn and Marn only. Taking a hurried glance around, he noticed no one was near, and sighed. Removing the rest of his clothes hastily, he tossed them on the dustbin, still backing away slowly, feeling a cold ripple move down his spine.
Both the Heartless and him halted, as Marn's skin seem to expand and shimmer, fur sprouting everywhere. His limbs elongated and grew, multiplying, eyes doing the same as he expanded and grew higher and bigger. At the peak of his transformation, Marn rushed forward, charging through the Heartless, trampling them beneath him as he swiped a large swath through the small group. Rolling over to crush those that clung to his back, he made another swipe at an assaulting Heartless, sending it flying backwards.
Something hot hit him on his back and Marn reeled backwards, crouching slightly as the burning feeling grew and suddenly disappeared. Jumping, he landed on some of the perpetrators, snarling and biting the others. Soon enough, the Heartless were cleared, and Marn glanced warily around.
Finally, he shifted again, shifted out of his monstrous form, shifted into a what appeared to be a gothic boy. Hastily clothing himself, he glanced around the alley.
"I can take care of myself. I don't need anyone."
