"It's about time somebody went straight for the soul."
Name: Rinlake Marletti
Nickname(optional): Rin
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Position: Good
Power(s):
Ghost Flash
"Boo.”
Rinlake proceeds to attack the opponent, but suddenly stops moving. He then quickly teleports away, leaving an after-image from where he originally stood to trick the opponent, strikes from behind, and rapidly repeats a few more times after.
III Phantoms
”Feel the soul!” (said as if there were three voices)
A combo finish where Rin creates three doppelgangers which either encircle the opponent or float just above them, which respectively attack with either Phantom Blast or a downwards strike, depending if the attack is the finishing move of a ground or aerial combo.
Phantom Blast
“Spirit!”
Rin points the Phantom’s Tongue at his opponent, sending forth a homing blast of concentrated spiritual energy. Once cast, this ability cannot be used again until Rin manages to extract the piece of soul that was fired, by either killing the enemy, or by dealing significant damage to the enemy.
Spirit Shield
A blocking maneuver where what appears to be Rin’s spirit absorbs some of the damage, while Rin himself takes the rest of the damage.
NOT LEARNT YET
Soul Rush
Rin falls unconscious, while the Phantom's Tongue spontaneously controls itself. His soul 'escapes' through, and is guided by, the sword, which moves Rin's arm as he retains his grip on it. His soul flies through the enemy, and promptly returns to Rin's body.
Astral Escape
"Soul, run free!"
Much like Soul Rush, but instead of just attacking, Rin's soul can stay outside his body for five posts, weapon-less, and able to perform some new attacks:
Rin's soul will be unable to use Spirit Shield and III Phantoms.
Weapon(s):
Phantom’s Tongue
Having a long, slightly curved mythril blade of a glowing pale green colour and split partway through the middle, the Phantom’s Tongue is a unique weapon which primarily gathers its power from Rinlake’s soul. One swipe of this blade can drain energy from an unlucky victim’s soul, giving the weapon extra energy to perform combo finishes. Because Nobodies have no heart to resist the Phantom’s Tongue, the sword has a small advantage against them. Heartless, on the other hand, lack souls. This means that the weapon’s soul-draining capabilities are ineffective against them, giving a minor disadvantage versus the Heartless.
Rin is not normally affected by the adverse effects of the Phantom's Tongue, because a system failure when producing the sword inadvertently made an inseparable link between it and Rin. Anyone else wielding it, or being attacked by it, would suffer the effects of having their soul drained, that is, if the wielder in question actually has a soul. Initially, victims of the blade will feel slightly drowsy. Without rest and with further exposure, the feeling of tiredness will eventually develop to a stage where the victim falls into a mild stupor. The soul draining abilities can only destroy Nobodies, as only a heart will be able to resist further damage. However, if one's heart is particularly weak, a complete being may be driven to near death, potentially driving them to insanity.
Appearance: Rinlake Marletti is a skinny young man, whose distinguishable features include his silvery white hair and pale green, most likely through his constant experimenting with the soul. He has lightly-coloured skin, with a skinny build. Rin keeps a complexly patterned scarf around his neck, which has various colours such as green, white and black adorned all over. He wears a buttoned, dark gray shirt-like hoodie, some parts cut away to show the metal-buttoned black 'military t-shirt' underneath.
Rin walks around in what appears to be a pair of pale green and black motorcross boots, despite having no need for them. Almost the entirety of the boots are covered by Rin's tattered slim jeans, which were an odd shade of gray. On his left wrist, he wears his black watch, and on the right, a ghostly pale green and grey sweatband.
Personality: Rinlake is more of a man who thinks things through beforehand, to prevent failure. He is somewhat courageous, but he normally will not put everything on the line unless he is sure that he will succeed. Rin is also relatively difficult to work with, often full of scepticism when it comes to other people's ideas, but he will eventually relent once he realises that one's suggestion is the only way forward. Despite all of this, Rin manages to remain cheerful and will at times display a lust for life. He also has a sense of justice, and will go against the people in the wrong.
On the other hand, Rin is sometimes quick to anger, most often when pressured into a situation, as he is not very good at handling intense stress. Nevertheless, when it comes to fighting, Rin will forget previous emotions and attempt to deal with the situation. When he feels inclined to flee, he will normally leave without a word, as if nothing had happened.
Original World: Twilight Town
Current Residing World: Twilight Town
History/Background: Rinlake Marletti, a researcher studying the soul, was born in Twilight Town. He was raised by his grandparents due to the tragic deaths of his parents. His mother had died from his son's birth, while his father died of depression from the death of Rin's mother. Rin's grandparents would often impart words of wisdom to their grandson, teaching him about the concept of the heart, body and soul. They knew such information because they had acquaintanced with an undisclosed wise man in the past. Other than the receiving of a piece of rare matal (Mythril) as a family heirloom, Rin lived a quiet life, gaining a few friends on the way.
Towards the end of his adolescence, he found himself interested in the soul, which had barely been studied by any of the researchers of his day (or that of Twilight Town, at least). Rin spent a couple of years researching the true functions of the soul. Rin eventually came upon the revelation of the separation of the soul from its body. Upon finding that souls seemed to bind themselves to inanimate objects, given the right circumstances, Rin experimented with this phenomenon. With the aid of a machine he called the 'Soul Simulator', he found that the soul can 'project' itself from its body into inanimate objects and to a certain extent living beings, and that it was a very slow transferral, taking a couple of days before subjects showed any adverse effects.
With this information, Rin immediately began to work on something that could utilise the soul in combat. Namely, his soul.
Role Playing Sample: Bang, bang, bang, went the hammer, as Rinlake shaped his work. It had come out as planned, a long, curved blade of fine material, his heirloom. Now, it was time to add the finishing touch. Rin undressed, for clothes could easily get in the way, and climbed into the Soul Simulator. Not before placing the sword in a separate compartment, of course. A flick of the switch and the machine turned on.
Inside, the temperature started to rise quite quickly while Rin was writhing in the pain the heat gradually brought. Fifty degrees, fifty-five, sixty - it seemed almost suicidal. But just then, and only then, did a buildup of some strange energy release itself from Rin's body. It spread all around the chamber, but eventually found itself attracted into a pipe. Flowing through such a contraption, it was indeed heading for the sword. To counter the rising temperature of Rin's chamber, the compartment of the curved blade started to freeze. For some odd reason, the energies seemed to like it, and soon managed to reach the sub-zero compartment.
Suddenly, alarms started sounding. It seemed that the machine's processes were about to fail. The temperature controls changed erratically, and Rin was quick to escape from the malfunctioning machine, neglecting the sword. Survival is more important, anyway, not big curved swords, the burnt Rin thought to himself, but maybe I should still check on it to see if it worked.
When the Simulator finally turned itself off, Rin, much to his surprise, found something pale green in his hands with a glowing aura that could be easily sensed. Looking at it, he cried out loud, towards the curved sword that had become split through the middle, "I did it! I created you, you the tongue of a viper! Of a phantom!"

Astral Escape
"Soul, run free!"
Much like Soul Rush, but instead of just attacking, Rin's soul can stay outside his body for five posts, weapon-less, and able to perform some new attacks:
- Imbue Soul: Rin's soul is imbued with the element associated with one of his enemies (i.e. using this against a Heartless would imbue his soul with darkness), allowing bonus damage to be dealt of said element throughout the five post time limit. Can only be used once in an Astral Escape.
- Possession Phase: Does not work on Heartless. Rin's soul enters the enemy's body, dealing a fair amount of damage.
- Half-Revival: A part of Rin's soul returns to his body, giving him just enough energy to cooperate with his soul in attacking the enemy. Lasts for two posts, and will completely return Rin's soul to his body when it has finished. It can be finished prematurely if the five-post time limit of Astral Escape has been met.
Rin's soul will be unable to use Spirit Shield and III Phantoms.
